The Significance of Motivation in the ESL Classroom

Abstract

The paper proposes to shed light on how to establish and manage an effective and successful language classroom in terms of learners’ motivation in accordance with the fact that teachers are presently expected to be informed enough to be able to pilot their teaching, satisfying various requirements of different learners. It is designed to explore the significance of motivation in ESL learning and the factors that might affect learners’ motivation in language learning context from a theoretical perspective. Motivation is a very significant and effective element in the realm of second language learning. To be precise, motivation has a direct effect on both quality as well as quantity of language learning. It is based on Gardner’s (1982, 2010) socio-educational model of second language acquisition. Thus, the language teachers and researchers would discover, realize and pay attention to the whole personality of their learners. It also provides a brief discussion and a few valuable inferences and suggestions for practicing teachers and researchers in the field of English language teaching.

Tata Housing Scholarship for Meritorious Girl Students 2015-16

Objectives: The objective is to recognize, promote and financially assist the meritorious Girl Students belonging to economically weaker sections, so that they are able to complete higher education in civil engineering, architecture and construction project management and be a part of the flourishing Real Estate Industry. This prestigious much sought after National Scholarship was instituted in the year 2014-15.

Eligibility: Girls applying for this scholarship must be fulfilling all the three conditions mentioned below to be eligible for consideration for the award of the scholarship.

The scholarships will be awarded based on competitive merit and need. All other things being equal, preference will be given to students belonging to scheduled caste (SC) and scheduled tribe (ST) communities.

 The scholarship is open to girls studying 2 nd year of Civil Engineering/Architecture in any 4 years-degree course such as B. Tech/B.E/B. Arch in any institute located in India and affiliated to any University recognised by law in India. Girl students studying 1 st year of full-time 2 years MBA course in Construction Project Management in any institute located in India and affiliated to any University, recognised by law in India, are also eligible to apply for this scholarship.

 Girls studying Civil Engineering/Architecture must have secured at least 50 percent marks in aggregate in the First Year of Engineering/Architecture course. In case of MBA in Construction Project Management, they should have secured at least 50 percent marks in aggregate in the qualifying degree examination.

 The total annual family income of the parents/guardians (in case parents are not alive) must not be more than Rs 3 Lakh (Rupees Three Lakh only) from all sources in the preceding financial year.

Scholarship Amount:
 The expenditure towards payment of admission fees, tuition fees, library fees, examination fees, purchase of books etc will be reimbursed on submission of appropriate proofs, subject to a maximum limit of Rs 60 thousands only.
 In case the student is in receipt of any other scholarships, the differential amount (cost incurred and scholarship received from other source) will only be reimbursed.

Continuing of scholarship A student who gets the scholarship will continue to receive scholarship in the 3 rd and 4th year of engineering/architecture and 2nd year of MBA, subject to the condition that she secures at least 60 percent of marks in aggregate in the preceding academic year.

There are more than A$10,000 of prizes. The competition is on "Bhagavad Gita As It Is", by AC Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.

Which book must be used in answering the question?
All verse quotes and citations must be from the 'Bhagavad Gita As It Is' with translation and purports by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
In terms of answering the essay question the student must study and refer to 'Bhagavad Gita As It Is'. If another version of Bhagavad Gita is used to answer the question, the applicant will be disqualified; no other version of Bhagavad Gita will be considered.
Criteria

Each entry must be original and free from plagiarism (the action of taking someone else's work, ideas, etc., and passing these off as one's own. This includes books, web articles, lectures etc.). If one is quoting or has been inspired by someone else, that person should be acknowledged in the essay.
The entry is to be the original work of the applicant/s; entries must not have been previously published. All sources must be fully and appropriately acknowledged. This is a competition of skill; chance plays no part in this competition.

The applicant/s may submit entries across all Levels of the competition. They may enter each or any of the levels more than once; however the work of each entry must be new and fresh and not previously submitted, as well as payment must be made for each entry.

Level One Essay: Individual entry
The essay is to be between 2,500 and 3,000 words (between two thousand five hundred and three thousand words).
Level Two Essay: Group entry
The essay is to be between 2,000 and 2,500 words (between two thousand and two thousand five hundred words).

Use English, double-spaced text throughout, 4cm wide margins, left alignment, numbers in the bottom right-hand corner of the pages, 12-point font size text, Garamond Font, Word Document format.
More than one submission per applicant will be accepted - however, for each essay submission a fresh fee will need to be paid. For example if you are entering Level One essay competition you are allowed to submit more than one essay but for every essay submission you will need to pay the A$35 entry amount.

Note: The pattern for TGT and PGT remains the same. It is the degree of difficulty that varies.
