Airtel's App Development contest is an open-ended challenge. Teams are free to think creatively and outside-the-box, the only requirement being that the app must be related to the one of the below themes:
Telecom and the Internet of Things (IoT)
The Internet of Things is an inter-connection of everyday objects among themselves and applications, the central idea being that there will be more things connected in the Internet than people connected through it. From connected cars that cut insurance costs to washing machines controlled by smartphones, the "internet of things" is rapidly becoming the next big market for the world's largest technology and telecom groups. The rise of the Internet of Things – including the growing penetration of smart devices in the digital home – represents a massive opportunity for telecom players. Telecom companies have potential to play in the space encompassing devices, diagnostics, analytics, optimized communication, vertical specific apps, self-care etc.
  • Telecom and the Mobile wallet
The mobile wallet allows users to make payments through devices like smartphones, tablets and phablets from any location at any time. With the increase in online transactions and mobile banking, the mobile wallet market in India has grown significantly in a very short time. Last year, major application areas that drove the country's mobile wallet market included money transfer, mobile recharge and bill payments and utility applications. In August 2015, 11 companies received approval for payment bank licenses from the Reserve Bank of India. Airtel will also play in the mobile wallet space. How can telecom leverage technology in this space?
  •  Managing Customer experience through Mobile applications
Customer Experience Management represents a major opportunity for Telecom Operators to differentiate themselves in a crowded market and achieve enhanced customer satisfaction and higher brand advocacy. The advent of digital channels has changed the way consumers communicate and search for product and service information, and this digitization means big changes in customer service architecture. The MyAirtel app is one such initiative which transfers control to consumers when it comes to providing information on usage, bills, recharges etc. How can we further revolutionize customer service through digital channels and technologies?
