PGT ENGLISH Syllabus
Army Public School PGT English Exam Pattern 

There are two papers such as part A and part B.Part A is General Paper 90 Questions 90 MarksPart B is English (Subject) Paper 90 Questions 90 Marks
There are negative marks (0.4 marks for each ) of the wrong answer 
(a) Good communication skills in The English language. While verbal communication skills will be assessed during the interview, the screening exam will gauge your comprehension skills, grammar, and knowledge of the language.
(b) Basic computer skills are mandatory since technology has made major inroads into
education.
(c) General Awareness is important since the students of today are very aware due to the
influx of media.
(d) Basic mathematical skills and logical thinking are essential if one is to evolve as an educator.

Syllabus
(b) Language and Grammar
Technology, Sports, Awards and decorations, Language and Literature.topics. The B.Ed. DOABA guide would be a good resource for Teaching skills and Knowledge.
SUBJECT: ENGLISH
vocabulary and literary skills.

1) The first passage will be a factual (e.g. instruction, description, report, literary (extract from fiction, essay or biography) or a discursive passage (argumentative, persuasive or interpretative text).
2) The second passage will be a literary passage (poem or an extract from drama).
* The two passages will be of 10 marks each.

Questions will be based on antonyms, synonyms, homonyms, word power, to infer meaning, correct spelling etc. to test the vocabulary accuracy of the candidate.
* 3 questions of 5 marks each will be put up in the form of MCQ

This section shall comprise of a variety of short questions involving the use of various structures. Parts of Speech, Phrases, Clauses, Sentences and their types, Narration, Voice,
Subject Verb Agreement, Punctuation, Verb Patterns, Question tags, Parts of Speech.
* Five questions based on different grammar topics shall be put. Each question will carry five marks each. Questions will be in the form of MCQs.

GUIDELINES FOR CANDIDATES:
 PART A PAPER
General Guidelines
1. The aim of this paper is to select teachers who have background knowledge and basic skills with the potential to develop into good teachers in an English Medium school.
2. The following are important to become good teachers in Army Public Schools:-
3. Since only this paper is applicable to candidates who are aspiring to become Primary teachers in Army Public Schools, it is important that they have the capability to teach all subjects at Primary level.

paragraphs.

6. Numerical Aptitude(15 Marks) Profit and loss, Interest, Age problems, Average/Speed
problems.
7. Reasoning and Logical Thinking Series and pattern completion, Logical thinking, Critical
analysis.
8. General Knowledge(15 Marks) Current Affairs, Politics, History, Geography, Science and
9. Computer Skills (20 Marks) Internet usage common terms used, word-power point spreadsheet keys, usage drop down menus their application, Awareness of computer-based technology and terminology.

Teaching Skills and Knowledge(20 Marks) Theories and Principles of Education, Educational Psychology, Current Problems of Indian Education, Knowledge of RTE, School organization and administration, General methods of teaching, Educational Technology, Education, Evaluation and Measurement, Health and Physical Education, Lesson Planning, Knowledge of NCF.

11. The above-mentioned topics i.e. English, Numerical Aptitude and General Knowledge have to be studied from the different sources which are available. There are many books on these topics.

Computer Skills are application of what is being done and books are available on the above-mentioned
SYLLABUS FOR THE CSB EXAM
The question paper will comprise of 90 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ’s) each of one mark. The question paper is divided into four sections to test the reading, writing,
Section I - Comprehension or Reading skills - 20 Marks
Section II - Vocabulary accuracy - 15 Marks
Section III - Grammar - 25 Marks
Section IV - History of English Literature and General awareness of English - 30 Marks
Section I - Will comprise of two unseen passages with a variety of comprehensive questions (MCQs). The questions will also include word attack skills and literary device.
Section II - Vocabulary Accuracy -- 15 marks
Section III - Grammar
Section IV - History of English Literature and general awareness. MCQs based on the Classical and Contemporary literary work. Assorted and miscellaneous questions pertaining to important quotes, characters, sayings, novels, dramas and plays etc.
Books, Biographies, Autobiographies, Movies based on famous novels etc.
Note: The pattern for TGT and PGT remains the same. It is the degree of difficulty that varies. Candidates appearing for the TGT need to be well versed with the graduation level syllabus of English Literature and candidates appearing for the PT need to have command over the basic PG syllabus generally.
